Charity shop in Paris

Buying from a charity thrift shop means doing two things at once: finding a piece at a low price and funding social work — workplace integration, support for people in precarious situations, the fight against textile waste. Shops labelled "solidaire" reinvest most of their revenue into their mission. In Paris, this circuit remains underrated despite being both the cheapest and the most *committed*.

The offer is eclectic by nature: it all depends on the donations received the previous week. You'll find mainstream fast fashion, but also premium brands given by people clearing out their wardrobes. With patience and regular visits, the best pieces leave — fast. It's a format that rewards repeat visitors.

Parisian Emmaüs branches and those just outside the city (Saint-Ouen, Neuilly-Plaisance) remain the historical reference. Le Relais runs several shops across Île-de-France with rigorous sourcing. Inside Paris, newer structures like La Fripe Solidaire or charity-specific shops (Croix-Rouge, Secours populaire) round out the offer. Belleville, the 20th and the 18th arrondissements hold the most active charity addresses.

Prices are consistently among the lowest in the city: count €5 to €15 for a top, €10 to €30 for a jacket. The trade-off: less curation, so more effort needed. Bring time. And if you're cleaning out your own wardrobe, donate rather than throwing things in a recycling bin — the charity revalorisation chain is by far the most virtuous.
