Bouquinerie solidaire Oxfam
PORTRAIT
Located on rue Daguerre in the bustling market neighbourhood of the 14th arrondissement, Oxfam's solidarity bookshop is far more than a simple secondhand bookstore. You'll find used books in good condition, comics, DVDs, CDs, and also occasion wear and evening dresses — occasionally featuring quality pieces from Sandro, Lacoste or Calvin Klein — alongside board games and toys for families. Prices range from 3 to 60 euros, making it an accessible address for all budgets. Beyond simple treasure hunting, Oxfam operates with an openly activist stance against fast fashion. As Oxfam France reminds us on YouTube: "what we wear has meaning and impact — our clothes can help build a more solidarity-based, sustainable and engaged world." Part of the clothing selection also features new items supplied by ethical and responsible partner brands. The stock is disparate by nature, and that is precisely what gives the shop its charm. As one Oxfam manager explains of the clothing offering: "we have very mixed things, some fairly ordinary items and quality pieces — there are also lovely pieces, somewhat vintage or designer pieces, though not the majority, but quite different things because they're not necessarily from the latest collections, so items that can be more original." All good reasons to visit regularly, as stock is constantly refreshed through donations. A useful tip: don't hesitate to ask staff if there are copies in reserve, as visible stock on the shelves doesn't always reflect what's available. If you're thinking of making a donation: books must be in good condition, only English-language paperbacks are accepted (not hardcovers), and clothing must be in very good condition and wearable again. An unpretentious solidarity address, ideal for purposeful treasure hunting while supporting more responsible consumption.
