Curated vintage in Paris

A curated vintage shop is the exact opposite of the kilo. Here, sorting isn't left to the customer: it's already been done, painstakingly, by the owner. Every piece on a rail has been chosen for a reason — cut, era, fabric, condition. You don't dig, you look. Volumes are small, prices higher than average, and the vibe closer to a concept store than a flea market.

This format suits those who don't have the time — or the inclination — to sort through racks themselves. The shop does the work for you. It's also an excellent entry point for newcomers to vintage: you learn to recognise a good piece simply by observing what's been selected.

Parisian curated shops cluster in the Marais (around rue de Saintonge, rue Charlot and rue de Turenne), at the Canal Saint-Martin, and in South Pigalle. A few more confidential addresses open in the 9th and 10th, in streets mixing designer boutiques and high-end vintage. South Paris (6th and 7th) also holds a few sharp addresses, closer in spirit to luxury consignment.

Prices start around €40 for a well-sourced top and climb fast: €80 to €200 for a jacket, more for signed or rare pieces. You pay for the curation, the eye, the time the shop invested in sourcing. The implicit guarantee is quality: a piece bought in a curated shop is unlikely to be a miss. Paradoxically, it's the most beginner-friendly format for getting into vintage without making mistakes.
