LE PORTRAIT
An address with a clear point of view.
On Rue Saint-Paul, in the heart of historic Marais, Pompon occupies a singular place in Paris's vintage fashion landscape. The boutique has specialised in territories few addresses dare explore: nineteenth-century dresses and undergarments, corsets and lingerie from 1900-1920, stage costumes, and vintage knitwear in cashmere and virgin wool, antique gloves, hat pins, garters and powder compacts. You'll also find kimonos and Japanese pieces, jewellery, headdresses, and select names like La Perla and Courrège. The whole forms a coherent cabinet of curiosities, where each object carries its provenance and date. Alexandre — sometimes Maximilien — is there to tell you about it all, without pushing a sale. The shop opens only in the afternoon, from 3pm onwards, and closes on Sundays: come on a weekday to take time for a proper conversation.
That's what makes the difference here. What further distinguishes Pompon is the way the boutique constructs a narrative around its new arrivals. Selections are not presented as simple restocked inventory, but as fully realised thematic collections — 'Égyptomania', 'Trésor des Indes' — that give each new delivery aesthetic and cultural coherence (as evidenced by videos on the Pomponmarais YouTube channel). Bags, complete outfits, rare pieces are staged, worn, and told. The shop's YouTube channel — active and regular in 2025 — extends this spirit: everyday vlogs of vintage dealing, 'Question Pompon' formats answering the curious, styled piece presentations. It's a boutique that lives as much online as in-store, and has built a community around a distinctly affirmed taste for the beautiful, the old, and the singular.
« Une véritable boutique vintage exceptionnelle ! De nombreux articles datent du début du XXe siècle : magnifiques, en excellent état et à des prix très raisonnables. C’est un vrai plaisir de découvrir une sélection pointue qui va au-delà des grandes marques pour proposer des pièces plus rares et intéressantes. La propriétaire est très aimable et serviable, et parle un excellent anglais. »
